February 26
What is Pink Shirt Day? This year, Pink Shirt Day, or Anti-Bullying Day, is on February 26. It is a day when people come together by wearing pink shirts to school or work to show they are against bullying. The focus for 2020 is "lift each other up."
Why is there PINK shirt day?
In 2007 in Nova Scotia, Grade 12 students David Shepherd, Travis Price and a few friends saw that a Grade 9 student was being bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school.
They knew they had to do something to show that this kind of behaviour was not OK.
They decided to go out and buy a bunch of pink shirts and hand them out to other students to wear.
By the end of that week, most of the students in the school were wearing pink shirts to show support for the Grade 9 student who was bullied.
Bullying is when someone deliberately tries to hurt someone else they think is weaker than they are. In many cases, bullying is repeated over and over and can cause a lot of pain that lasts a long time. It can even lead to things like depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.
Bullying happens in many ways, but some common forms of bullying are verbal (teasing, name-calling), physical (hitting, kicking, pushing, breaking someone's toys or favourite things) or social (leaving someone out, spreading rumours).
Cyberbullying is using social media or other technology like texting to threaten, embarrass or even damage a person's reputation.

A World of Kindness Book😊
There are many ways children can show kindness to others— human, animal, young, and old. In a series of thoughtful questions, the text reminds readers of the impact they can have through everyday actions and words. From simply saying “please” and “thank you” to helping, comforting, and protecting others, A World of Kindness goes beyond mere platitudes and politeness to examine, in a kid-friendly way, the most powerful of social interactions.
We worked in groups after reading the story to come up with some of our own words and phrases for "KINDNESS".💜🧡💙❤️

Making a Difference......🙏
What a privilege I had to take our 'Kindness Rocks' to the Cross Cancer Institute this week. My heart was bursting and tears rolling down my cheeks as I watched from a far patients take a rock from the baskets. I know we touched many hearts today and I know we brought smiles to their faces as they opened up their bags to see the message painted on their rock. I am so proud of my students for doing such an incredible job on this project. My heart is full.❤️

PINK SHIRT DAY- 'Hang Bullying out to Dry' and 'A Minion Reasons not to Bully" were the projects we worked on today. The kids had a great day and had FUN doing the activities We had great discussions and we worked together. Thank you kids for a great day!
Pink Shirt Day
On February 24, 2016 we encourage everyone to wear something pink to show that we are all working together to prevent bullying in our schools, and in our communities. Pink Shirt Day comes from two Nova Scotia high school students, who decided to take a stand against bullying in their own school. We encourage everyone to openly express that “Kindness is one size fits all”. We all have the capacity to spread kindness and should be kind to one another each day/year round beyond Pink Shirt Day. After all, kindness never goes out of style. Silver Carnival and Valentine's ExchangeOn February 12th, we will be doing a 'Valentine's Exchange' in the morning (A list of the children in our class went home yesterday). In the afternoon will be the 'Silver Carnival'.
The Silver Carnival consists of games that the children can play. The children go around to all the classes and play different games that the classroom has set up. Our room will be doing 'musical chairs'. Each activity/game costs 25 cents and all money collected will be going to our foster child Abigail in Africa. Thank you for your support. Also: Thank you to our Keenooshayo Parents Association for supplying 2 pieces of pizza and a drink to all the kids in the school on Friday for lunch. We are very lucky and thankful for your generosity! |

Thursday, December 17th- is STAR WARS DAY!
