EveryBody's Different on EveryBody Street
Author: Sheree Fitch
Illustrated by: Emma FitzGerald
If ever you go travelling
On EveryBody Street
You’ll see EveryBody’s Different
Than EveryOne you meet
Sheree Fitch’s playful words lead you into this beautiful children’s book and invite you to celebrate our gifts, our weaknesses, our differences, and our sameness. Fitch displays her wit and mastery of words in quick, rollicking rhymes that are complemented by Emma Fitzgerald’s lively illustrations. EveryBody’s Different on EveryBody Street was originally produced in 2001 as a fundraiser to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Festival of Trees in support of the Nova Scotia Hospital and to raise awareness for mental illness and addiction.

Our Class Schedule this year.
2019-2020 School Year
We have a recycling program that we started at school this week. We will be collecting 'organics' in the little bins in each of our classrooms ( Kids can put scraps of food left over from lunch or recess inside) . We have a large bin in the school that we will be putting them in for pick up on Tuesdays at the curb.
Just another way, we can do our part to help reduce waste and make the world a better place.
2018-2019 School Year
May 22, 2018
Dear Parents,
This year is the first year in a very long time that we will be NOT going to the Children's Festival. We simply did not have the money in our budget to take the kids (both grade 3 classes). The children festival increased their fees this year to $21 dollars a student to do 2 site activities and 1 main show. That was a big increase from last year and that doesn't include buses. At the beginning of this year we only budgeted for $15.00 a student. So instead of going to the festival we were able to do he Mothers Day craft glass and get caterpillars for our science unit to raise.
We have only one field trip left and its to the Devonian Gardens on Thursday, June 13th. I will need probably 1-2 parent volunteers. The permission form will go home at the end of next week.
Just a reminder the kids have a science test tmrw afternoon.
Our last reading goal party in an OUTSIDE PARTY- kids can bring scooters, skateboard, bikes (helmets), soccer balls, footballs, ball gloves etc. We will enjoy a beautiful morning or afternoon together enjoying some outside activities at the back of the school and popsicles or freezies too!
The Reading Goal is from May 16th to June 17th- 4 1/2 weeks. The goal is to have passed 3 AR quizzes to participate. That means reading 3 chapter books at their reading level and taking and passing the quizzes. The students must get 60% which is 6 out of 10 comprehension questions correct. This is how the program is set up. I know already that quite a few kids have already taken quizzes since last Wednesday that count towards this party. Thank you for all your support at home with the home reading program and encouraging the kids to read at night. The students also read almost every day at school for silent reading time and in the library. I let the students read in the morning or right after lunch recess too.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
This Friday, we thought it would be fun to bring in some cut up pieces of food to see if our caterpillar likes it. We will be doing this after swimming lessons in the afternoon. Please have your child bring in 4-5 small cut up pieces of food- in baggies. We will put them in a circle, on a pice of paper and put our caterpillar in the middle and see what foods she/he is must attracted too.
I am sure the kids will tell you all about it on Friday after school! :)
Other important dates that are coming up- Mark on your calendar:
June 6- Volunteer tea in the library
June 13- Devonian Gardens
June 14- Library closes
June 18- possible spray park- weather pending
June 19- fountain park pool grade 3 fun swim

Here are some "Calm Down Strategies" that may come in useful to help your child is they experience some anxiety and or need to practice being more calm.
I LOVE having 'Mindfulness' 2 times a week in the classroom (Monday and Wednesday). It helps us feel more calm too and gives us strategies that we can apply to our every day life. :)

Congratulations to us!!!! We are an UNESCO School!
We are a member of the “Associated Schools Project of UNESCO”. We want to continue to make students understand our responsibility in our homes, our neighborhood, our community, nationally and globally. UNESCO is made up of 4 pillars to be used in our everyday life.
The first pillar, LEARNING TO KNOW…….. Which means, Knowing about what is happening around the world.
Next, is LEARNING to BE, to know our place in the world.
Then, LEARNING TO DO, To take action and doing something to contribute to the world.
And the last pillar is LEARNING TO LIVE TOGETHER. Everyone learning to cooperate and treat each other with respect.
With these 4 PILLARS, we at Keenooshayo are on our way to making a difference in the world we live in today.

***IMPORTANT*** Please have a conversation with your son and daughter about taking care of all their school supplies. There are NO names on any of them. This is a sample of just the items found on the floor this week, at the end of the day after they leave and its only Wednesday (so 3 days). 🤔
At this rate..... they will have nothing in their extra supplies bag by Christmas.☹️

March Testing- just to let you know we finished up our Social today and all kids should have taken their yellow duotang home to read over and study this weekend. In their agendas' we wrote the test will be on Wednesday but then decided because Wednesday is a half day (dismissal at 12:30) that we would write it on a different day. I think because they are taking their books home this weekend that I will have them write the test on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 28). It is an 'open book' test so they are able to use their notes to help them. They copied notes off the smart board on the 4 countries we are studying and have separate notes on Transportation, utilities, schools and health care to read over as well. The kids had 3 afternoons to work on these notes with a partner.
We will be finishing up Science next week, so please expect their green duotang to come home next week to study. I am thinking the test will be on Wednesday, March 8th.
We will also be finishing up our math unit next week as well. Test on Addition and Subtraction 2 digit and 3 digit numbers will be on Monday, March 6th- I usually don't do tests on Monday's but you can't really study for math and I am going to be away for a couple days that week and would rather administer it with the kids and not the replacement teacher.
It will be a busy couple weeks but report cards are approaching and units are wrapping up. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Please click on the link below to listen to the book, 'When I was Eight'. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSBrkJn3NeI We designed a shirt logo on reading and the importance of reading. Not all children in the world have the opportunity to read or even have books. Some are not allowed or encouraged. Please see below for a few of our posters we made from our class. When I was Eight by Margaret Pokiak-Fenton Olemaun is eight and knows a lot of things. But she does not know how to read. Ignoring her father’s warnings, she travels far from her Arctic home to the outsiders’ school to learn. Based on the true story of Margaret Pokiak-Fenton, and complemented by stunning illustrations, When I Was Eight makes the bestselling Fatty Legs. accessible to younger readers. Now they, too, can meet this remarkable girl who reminds us what power we hold when we can read. |

Mindfulness- 'Kindness Boomerang' video
- Today's lesson focused on 'Generosity". Our focus was on being kind and how kindness is contagious. By doing something nice for someone, it makes you feel good and can make you want to do something kind to someone else. The video link below is Awesome!
